What is Micro-Penning?

The MicroPen is a safe and very effective skin–resurfacing tool that creates micro channels in the skin to stimulate new collagen and elastin production. In addition, the treatment can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, treat acne scars and smooth out textural issues such as sunspots, stretch marks and hyper–pigmentation. Unlike lasers, the MicroPen is safe for all skin types, including darker tones.

How does it work?

Micro needling is an advanced medical grade stainless steel device that when “passed” across the face, neck, décolleté or hands the device lightly punctures the skin creating micro channels which are essentially very small, controlled wounds. Immediately after the treatment, your skin will naturally start rebuilding new collagen and elastin for plumper, firmer skin.

Another benefit of micro–penning is that it allows your topical gels, creams and serums that you use at home to be absorbed more effectively.

What are the benefits?

Studies have shown MicroPen stimulates collagen by up to 200%. It also,

What areas of the body can be treated?

Micro-penning or micro-needling can be done on all parts of the body; face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

How is the treatment performed?

A sterile cartridge tip containing 12 points is attached to the MicroPen. Our medical staff will apply a thin layer of numbing cream to your skin to alleviate any discomfort. We will then select the appropriate pen setting based on your unique needs, and in a single motion, will press the pen gently against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. The process lasts approximately 30-60 minutes depending on the size and severity of the areas treated

What does it feel like?

With the topical gel, patients feel very little to no discomfort. The sensation is sometimes described as a light vibration across the skin.

Is there any downtime?

Since we’re creating a controlled wound, there will be a redness post treatment. This “mild sunburn” only lasts 24—48 hours, and many patients return to normal activities in a day or two.

When will I see results and how long do they last?

Normally patients see a benefit, or “glow”, immediately post-treatment but the maximum benefits won’t appear until the skin has had time to repair (approximately 6 months). The results last approximately 24 months once skin has healed.

How many treatments are needed?

For most patients, we recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Some patients only require a single treatment to achieve optimal results. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo–aging, stretch marks or acne scars, we may recommend 6–8 sessions.

What is MicroPen with PRP?

To enhance your results, you may elect to have MicroPen with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP is a concentration of platelets crucial to wound healing and when applied topically, they release you own growth factors to further expedite the body’s own repair process. A study has shown that adding PRP to your treatment, stimulates collagen up to 2000%!

What does the PRP procedure entail?

Blood (about 400 cc or 3 table spoonful) is taken ( drawn from the arm by butterfly needle ) from your own body and the PRP is separated from the other components. The PRP is then topically applied to the skin immediately following a micro-needling procedure. The micro-channels created by micro-needling provide direct pathways to the deeper layers of skin for optimal wound healing. Micro-needling with PRP application is an ideal treatment for smoothing fine lines, wrinkles, and scars or even increasing plumpness and overall rejuvenation of the skin.

The IPL photo facial can treat a variety of skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation (brown spots), sun damage, broken capillaries, spider veins, and facial redness. An IPL is non-ablative and emits a high intensity broad band blast of light at very high energy levels through a hand-held device. It delivers to the deeper part of the dermis while the epidermis layer or surface layer is untouched. Essentially, this technology shines bright, intense light on various parts of the skin. You will wear an eye mask to protect your eyes from the light, and your doctor will use a piece of equipment called an IPL device, which includes an apparatus with a glass or laser surface. This apparatus is pressed to the problematic areas of the body, emitting a light that heats up collagen beneath the skin, encouraging the body to produce more of this beneficial protein. Enhanced collagen production can fill in fine lines or wrinkles on the face as well as some shallow acne scars. IPL technology also reduces flushing and discoloration on the skin. The treatment takes on average 20-30 minutes with no real downtime. You will wear an eye mask to protect your eyes from the light. Photorejuvenation may cause mild discomfort. Many patients liken the feeling to a rubber band being snapped against the skin
